Prevent Emotional Eating Post Breakup

Many individuals struggle with emotional eating, a disorder that can lead to anorexia nervosa and bulemia. Many people tend to binge after a stressful event or tragedy, adding to the adverse effects of emotional eating issues. Some turn to exercise and meditation to relieve stress, but many use food as an outlet for negative emotions, which can cause a lot of problems. Learn prevent emotional eating after a bad breakup, one of the hardest times to get through in one's life.

Instructions

1. Forgive yourself. After a breakup, many ex-couples play the blame game. Many point the finger at themselves, going over the demise of their relationship in their minds until they crash and burn. Realize that the relationship ended for a reason...and both of you played a part in its happening. Get over the negative aspect of the breakup in your mind and heart, first and foremost.

2. Keep busy. Go on a ski trip, hike a local mountain, paint, listen to classic rock. Go out and dance. Cook a new recipe you've been dying to try. The key is to distract yourself from overeating. If you aren't eating enough, make a point to snack every few hours.

3. Leave yourself encouraging notes. Grab a couple of Post-It note's and scribble phrases like, "You're beautiful," "You can get through this," and "It's about you, now" on them. Place them on your desk at work, on your nightstand, and in your car. When you're feeling down, read them and BELIEVE them.

4. Find a support system and ask them to check in on you. Be it a friend, sister, or uncle, ask your close one to monitor your progress. If they notice you are binge eating or not eating enough, listen to them. If you are overeating when you're home alone, try to get out of the house as much as possible.

5. Find a photograph of yourself before your relationship. Find one of you all dolled up with a smile on your face. Stick it on the fridge and look at it every time you want to snack or binge. Remember how beautiful you were before your broken relationship and how amazing you still are.

6. Do what you love. If you're a writer, write some poetry. If you play the guitar, write a song marking the end of a relationship and the start of new beginnings. If you love to exercise, join a new fitness class or take up kickboxing. Engulf yourself in a new activity and stick with it.

7. Be positive. Getting stuck down in the dumps can lead to depression, ultimately. Don't look at your ex-man or girl as your only source of happiness. If they were right for you, it would have worked out. Tell yourself that you won't allow anyone to control your life, your happiness or your eating habits.
