Plan A New Year'S Vacation

A New Year's vacation is a great way to bring in the New Year. Many people have a holiday at New Year's time and getting away from it all can bring a fresh start to the year. New Year's resolutions can best be kept if made on a memorable holiday or in an exotic location.

Instructions

1. Start planning for a New Year's vacation at least nine months in advance. Flights to popular destinations, such as Hawaii, are booked up a few months ahead. Gather brochures and pamphlets and narrow the destinations list to half a dozen.

2. Decide upon the location by Memorial Day. Traditionally, cruises and skiing trips are popular. The more exotic locations such as Thailand are becoming fashionable. If a New Year's vacation requires overseas travel, be certain to leave a couple of months to obtain a passport and fulfill any visa requirements.

3. Finalize transportation plans before Halloween. Transportation is the most expensive part of New Year's vacations. Bargain shoppers can wait until the last minute to make reservations, but this could lead to disaster.

4. Shop for suitable cold weather clothes during Thanksgiving as this is also the best time to find bargains. Finalize hotel reservations and rental cars. Passports, visas and immunizations should be accomplished and in hand.

5. Begin packing suitcases the day after Christmas. Buy any last minute items, such as toothpaste, batteries or extra socks. Remember to bring along skin protection for both cold weather and warm weather climates.

6. Send out New Year's cards with your travel plans to family or friends. Arrive at the airport two to three hours early for international travel.
