Know the Courtyard
1. Know that soccer is played on a rectangular grassy field with dimensions of 120 yd by 75 yd (110 m by 70 m).
2. Remember that the main aim of each team is to score on the opponent's goal. Goals, consisting of two posts with a large net at the back, are centered on each end line of the field. The goals are 8 yd (7.3 m) wide by 8 ft (2.4 m) high.
3. Note that the leather ball has a circumference of 28 inches.
Play Soccer
4. Remember the aim of the game. Each team has to maximize its number of goals. Players cannot touch the ball with their hands and can only dribble the ball by kicking it with their legs or other parts of the body. Only the goalkeeper can use his or her hands.
5. Note that the duration of the match varies by playing level-school, college or professional. For professionals, it's a 90 minute game divided into two equal halves. It is the referee's prerogative to offer a break at the end of 15 minutes, if necessary.
6. Know that there is a goal keeper for each team. His or her role is to guard the net and stop the opposing team from scoring any goals.
7. Observe that the referee first tosses a coin in the air. The team that wins the toss, kickstarts the game from the line of scrimmage at the centre of the field.
8. Understand that the real play starts when the toss-winning team continuously passes the ball among its members. Their aim is to push the ball into the opposing team's territory and score a goal. At this stage, players of the other team dry to defend against the opponent.
9. Notice that the ball is kicked by players at different places such as Left Back, Right Back, Centre Back, Left Wing Back, Stopper, Right Wing Back, Defensive Center Midfield, Free Role, Left Forward, and Right Forward.
10. Consider the penalty corners that are crucial for both the teams. A penalty kick is offered to the offense team when the defense team makes a foul, especially closer to the goal-making area.
11. Assess the performance of both teams. The team that scores the maximum number of goals wins.
12. Remember that in case of a tie, the match extends into overtime.
