Plan A Day Trip From Paris

Paris is one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in Europe. After enjoying the museums, monuments, churches and shops, many visitors venture outside the city to explore. There are many popular sites located within one hour of central Paris. When you venture a little further, the options increase. Round out your Paris vacation by visiting some of the other amazing sites in France.

Instructions

1. Consider where you want to visit while on vacation. Options within approximately one hour of Paris include the palace at Versailles, Monet's home in Giverny, Disneyland, the champagne caves in Epernay and Reims, Fontainebleau Palace and several cathedrals. Options within two to four hours of Paris include castles in the Loire valley (the most popular are Chambord and Cheverny), wineries in the Loire valley, Normandy (D Day beaches) and Mont St. Michelle.

2. Book a group tour. Taking a group tour allows you to sit back and relax and let others do all the work. A knowledgeable guide will take you to the entrance and tell you about the destination. One drawback is the time schedule. You may not have time to linger and explore any additional things that catch your attention. In addition, if you don't like crowds, you may feel a bit restricted.

3. Take a train. France has an extensive train network. There are several train stations in Paris that are accessible by the Metro or taxi. The trains in France are fast, comfortable and safe. Before you leave find out how far the destination is from the train station so you know if you need to get a taxi when you arrive.

4. Rent a car for your vacation travels. For those who love to drive, a rental car provides the greatest freedom to explore. You don't have to coordinate tour start times or train schedules. However, you will have to pay for gas and tolls and follow a map. Shop around before you leave home and reserve a rental car in advance.

5. Prepare for the trip. Since you don't know what will be available at the destination, bring water, a light snack, cash and a jacket. Don't forget the camera!
