Donating old clothes to charity is not only a great way for you to clean out your closet and get rid of those clothes that you no longer wear, it also provides a fantastic service to your community. Your old clothes will go directly to those in need or will go to sale at reduced prices, with the proceeds going to a number of charitable causes.
Instructions
1. Inspect clothing well for wear and tear. Holes, large stains or other damage deems clothing unwearable and should not be placed in your donations pile. Remember that volunteers spend hours sorting through clothing donations, and adding unwearable clothing to the bag only wastes their time. Instead, set those clothes aside and use them for fabric scraps in arts and crafts projects, rags, painting clothes or work clothes.
2. Smell the clothing well as you prepare your donation. If there are any smells such as body odor, mildew, perfume or others, you should wash the clothing before donating.
3. Separate clothing into type, sex and size. That is, adult clothing should be separated from children's or baby's clothing, while clothing for girls or women should be apart from clothes for boy's or men. This helps to save volunteers at donation centers lots of time as they separate clothing on their own.
4. Fold clothing for donation neatly and place it into plastic bags, such as garbage bags, to protect the clothing from moisture. Because most donation centers have drop off areas outdoors, it is possible that clothing can become damaged quickly as it is exposed to the elements.
