A bake sale is a tried and true way to raise money.
If you need to raise funds for your charity, organization or special event, consider holding a bake sale. Scrumptious baked goods are hard to resist, especially for a good cause, but the success of your fundraiser depends on the effort put into planning and promoting the event.
Instructions
1. Decide on goals and objectives. What is the overall goal you are trying to reach? Exactly how much money do you hope to raise? The first step to a successful bake sale is to know your goals from the beginning and plan accordingly.
2. Start by documenting the items that will be offered at your bake sale. It is important to offer a variety of goods. Plan some items that will be single servings, some items that feed a small number, and some for a large group. Ideas that can be split into different serving sizes include cookies, brownies, cupcakes and doughnuts. Ideas for a larger group can also include loaves of homemade bread, cakes and pies.
3. Consider selling other things at your bake sale such as coffee, lemonade, soda, bottled water, etc.
4. Recruit volunteers to provide the goods for your bake sale. Members of your organization or charity should be asked to donate items to sell. Either ask your donors what items they will provide or assign items from the list you created. If you are selling for charity, you can often get bakeries or other small businesses in your area to donate items. For example, you could ask your local doughnut shop to donate a few dozen doughnuts and then sell them for $0.50 each. Your local ice cream shop may be willing to donate free cone coupons that you could sell for $1. Make a list of businesses and contact them.
5. Price your items in advance. Price competitively to what a customer would pay at a retail location. If you charge too much, you may lose customers. You can also put a donation box at the front table if someone wants to make a flat donation.
6. Advertise your sale. Create flyers to hang. Send emails to all your contacts. Ask your other volunteers to promote the event. Be sure to list what organization/charity the sale is for so people know what you are trying to raise money for.
7. On the day of the event, set up your tables in a high-traffic area and spend time arranging your goods. Provide paper plates, forks and napkins for people who want to eat their goodies right away. Provide paper or plastic bags for those who purchase a large number of items.
