Painting a homemade grill is the finishing touch in your grill building project.
Cooking over an open flame is one way to get in touch with your caveman roots. A barbecue grill provides a distinct flavor to the foods prepared on it. There are dozens if not hundreds of outdoor cooking grills on the consumer market, but you might discover that building your own homemade BBQ grill is one project that will pay delicious dividends. After you've constructed your grill, the final step in the building process is to protect your creation with a coat of heat-resistant paint. With the right products and tools, you can complete this part of the project in two days. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Remove any rust or surface dirt from the metal parts of the barbecue grill with a wire brush. You may have to wash the surface with water and mild dish soap if the metal is dirty enough. Allow it to dry thoroughly.
2. Cover the areas of the grill that you don't wish to paint with newspaper and painter's tape. Make sure the tape is tightly secured along any seams that the paint will be meeting.
3. Paint the grill with the high heat paint. Use back-and-forth strokes moving from the top to the bottom until it is uniformly covered. Allow it to dry for 24 hours.
4. Apply a second coat of paint in the same fashion as Step 3, and allow it 24 hours to dry.
5. Remove the tape and newspaper.
