Matt Dillon filming in L.A.
Since Los Angeles is the hub of the entertainment industry, most visitors want to see or meet a celebrity while they are there. Here a few tips to help you meet stars while you are in L.A., by catching them at work or play.
Instructions
1. Find out when and where celebrities are filming in Los Angeles. Most movies and TV shows are filmed on closed stages, but do film on location in and around the city on occasion. There are a few good websites that list filming locations and times, including On Location Vacations and Seeing Stars. (Follow the links in Resources.) Common filming locations include downtown L.A., the Santa Monica Pier and Griffith Park.
2. Attend the unveiling of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Most big celebrities will get a star there at one time or another. The ceremonies are usually star-studded events, and are open to the public to watch. Seeing Stars offers a schedule of who will be the next to receive a star.
3. Go to a movie premiere. All premieres feature a red-carpet arrival area for celebs where they can talk to press. Usually, there is also an area where fans can wait and meet the stars as they arrive. To find out where and when premieres are taking place, check the theater's website, Seeing Stars or On Location Vacations; all list movie-premiere information. The most popular theaters for premieres are Mann Village Theater, Grauman's Chinese Theatre and El Capitan.
4. Know the hot spots where celebrities like to hang out. The Ivy, Luna Park and Beso are all popular with celebrities.
5. Look for paparazzi. Whereever there is a big star wandering the streets of L.A., there will also be a crowd of photographers following behind, hoping to get that great shot. If you see a celebrity in Los Angeles, politely introduce yourself and ask for a photo or autograph, then excuse yourself once you are done.
