Preparing the dish ahead of time can save a lot of headache in the morning hours and allow you to share a warm breakfast with you family. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Brown the sausage in a skillet and drain off the grease by placing cooked meat on a paper towel. Set sausage aside and crack eggs into a large bowl. Whisk the eggs until well-beaten and add the half and half. Salt and pepper to taste and mix well.

2. Butter one side of each piece of bread. Prepare the casserole dish by spraying it with non-stick cooking spray. Place six pieces of bread, butter side down into the casserole dish. Pour half of the sausage onto the bread and cover with half of the egg mixture. Layer the rest of the bread, sausage and egg mixture into the dish.

3. Spread the two cups of cheddar cheese over the surface of the casserole. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and place it into the refrigerator overnight. If you want to cook the casserole before you go to bed, prepare it early in the afternoon and allow it to set in the refrigerator for at least six hours.

4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and remove the casserole from the refrigerator when you are ready to cook it. Remove the plastic wrap and place the dish in the preheated oven to bake for one hour. After the casserole has cooked 60 minutes, remove it from the oven and allow it to set for 10 minutes.
