Remove Windows Security Alert Icon In Vista

Windows Vista includes the Security Center--a vital system protection and management suite that allows you to monitor system updates, firewall and anti-virus program. By default, the Security Center alert icon is displayed on the Notification Area of the taskbar if your computer requires certain components such as system updates. If you do not want to the constant notifications, you can disable the security alerts and remove the icon in minutes using the Security Center.

Instructions

1. Click the Windows "Start" menu, click the "Control Panel," click "Security," and then click "Security Center." If prompted, type your administrator password and click "OK" to launch the Windows Vista Security Center.

2. Click the "Change the way Security Center alerts me" option in the left panel. A new dialog box launches.

3. Click the "Don't notify me and don't display the icon (not recommended)" option and click "OK" to save the changes. You should no longer see the security icon or notifications on the system tray located on the taskbar.
