Golfing is a fabulous way to raise funds for a school, mission trip or other philanthropic goal. It requires some set up to run a golf tournament, but it can be very successful.
Instructions
1. Set the date. Consider the weather and the availability of the local course. Also, you'll want to keep in mind any other events that might compete.
2. Determine the number of golfers. This number will likely be determined by the course at which you play.
3. Sell the slots as a foursome or as individual players. You can do this via a website, school auction, sign up at the Scouts meeting or whatever your philanthropic focus is. Remember to include the cost of renting carts, renting the course, lunch and any drinks served when setting the price to play.
4. Remind participants of the rules. If there are a large number of golfers, you'll likely use a shot gun format and play best ball. Determine the rules with the local pro and have the pro announce them prior to the start of the event.
5. Provide golf carts, lunch and drinks. The goal is to raise money and have fun, so make sure everyone can get around the course and has sufficient food and drink--you don't want to have a thirsty golfer.
6. Run a raffle or silent auction to raise additional funds. Often you can get local merchants to advertise via merchandise they offer to the event.
7. Include a putting contest. Have the pro set the tee for the start of the put and track who gets closest to the hole. Participants pay, say $5, and the winner splits the pot with the charity.
