Release Cramps

Muscle cramps can happen during exercise.

When muscle cramps hit they can bring down even the toughest person. They are a painful and uncomfortable condition that occurs when the muscles are placed under a certain level of tension or stress due to overexertion and fatigue. When muscles are dehydrated, oxygen deprivation can occur, causing the muscles to cramp. There are several techniques used to release the cramps and to prevent them from ever occurring.

Instructions

1. Replace lost fluids immediately when a cramp strikes. Drink water or electrolyte-enhanced sports drinks to help replenish the fluid your body has lost through sweat. Prevent dehydration in the first place by drinking at least 16 oz. of water before physical activity and then drink between 5 and 12 oz. every 15 to 20 minutes during exercise.

2. Stretch the affected muscle and gently massage it to help break up the tension and contraction of the cramp. This helps to dissipate the pain.

3. Take an non-steroidal anti-inflammation drug to help reduce swelling, inflammation or pain caused by the muscle cramp. Use an over-the-counter pain medication with anti-inflammatory or pain relieving properties to help with the recovery of the cramp.
