Organize a barbecue fundraiser with hamburgers.
When planning a fundraiser, consider having a barbecue to raise needed funds for your organization. Hamburgers can be a not-so-expensive product to sell and requires only a burger patty and a roll or bun. But to set your barbecue apart from others, consider offering extras with the burger and make them to order instead of selling cold burgers to customers that were made earlier in the day. Offer toppings such as cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and condiments. Considering offering a meal to create even more revenue with chips or fries, applesauce, a pickle and a beverage.
Instructions
1. Set a date for the fundraiser that won't conflict with common work schedules, such as a Saturday afternoon. Plan for it to happen during a mealtime. Arrange for volunteers from the organization as well as family members to cook the burgers, assemble them, take customer orders and money, refresh the condiment stock and keep the serving and cooking areas clean.
2. Secure an easily-accessible location for the fundraiser that either already has a grill onsite or allows for grills to be brought and used on the grounds, such as a community park. Pay a deposit, if necessary. Sometimes the community offers the use of the grounds at no cost or at a discounted rate for nonprofit organizations.
3. Create a flier for advertising that includes the date of the fundraiser, the sponsoring organization, the time and location as well as a small and motivating description of how purchasing a burger meal aids the community. Include the menu and pricing on the flier to entice supporters.
4. Order burger patties and rolls or buns from a local restaurant supply company or a grocer, as well as any offered condiments and toppings. Pre-pay for the supplies and arrange for a volunteer to pick them up so you may oversee the set-up and preparations for the fundraiser.
5. Two-to-three hours prior to the fund-raising event, arrive at the location and make sure it is clean for food service and handling. Arrange the disposable containers, and prepare the toppings. Store the food items in a cooler or a refrigerator, if applicable.
6. Just before opening the "doors" to the fundraiser, place a few burgers on the grill, although it is preferable to make the burgers to order when able. Depending on if the burger patties are frozen or thawed, it may take longer for people to get their food. Use your discretion, but when preparing the burgers in advance, keep them in a warming tray or heated chafing dish.
7. Organize the burger and bun in a disposable serving container along with offered sides such as applesauce, chips or fries and a pickle. Offer one napkin to each person who purchased a burger instead of setting them out, as your stock may be gone if people take too many at one time.
8. Arrange a buffet-style display with toppings and condiments for supporters to create their own burger. Set out only a small amount of toppings and keep the remaining stock in the refrigerator. Replenish the toppings as needed to offer supporters fresh items.
9. Clean up the area prior to leaving to so that it is tidy for those using the location in the future. Save any unused food and offer the organization members and visiting supporters to purchase leftovers as a last minute plea to raise funds opposed to wasting food. If there is still food remaining, consider donating the remaining stock to a local food pantry or homeless shelter, if applicable.
