Open A Marathon Franchise

If you're considering opening a gas station franchise, it's important to choose a company that will help make your business profitable. Marathon has a reputation for training and supporting it's franchise operators.

Instructions

1. Contact the Marathon Petroleum district office nearest you. They have four locations in the eastern part of the United States. A representative can answer your questions and let you know if you're a good fit for the company.

2. Scout your location thoroughly before making anything final. Gas station franchises that do well are located in places that have a high traffic count and minimal competition. If possible, go over the current operator's books with a fine-tooth comb and find out exactly how much business they got before you make anything final.

3. Network with gas station trade groups and other convenience store owners to get a feel for the market in your area. Before you commit to anything, it's best to make sure you know what kinds of local politics you have to look forward to.

4. Get your financing lined up. Gas station franchises charge an initial franchise fee, a training fee, advertising fee and a deposit on the gas that you'll use to start your business. In addition, be prepared to pay a percentage of your earnings to Marathon Petroleum.

5. Fill out the application form. Marathon will want to know all about your assets, the cash you have on hand and even your spending habits. They also want to make sure you have the experience needed to run the store. Management and retail knowledge is a plus.

6. Participate in the business management clinic offered by Marathon. This 2-week training covers all aspects of managing and marketing your new store. By the time you're done, you'll be qualified to operate your gas station franchise.
