The Timex 1440 watch synchronizes with time signals sent out from time labs across the U.S., based on time kept by atomic clocks. The watch maintains time accurate to the second by synchronizing with low-frequency radio signals once daily and twice on Sunday. Lack of access to the labs' transmitting radio waves can, however, prevent synchronization, requiring manual synchronization. If the tower icon--which looks a little like an angel with wings to its right--appears, then the watch has synchronized in the past 24 hours. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Synchronize the time manually by pressing down the "Split/Reset" button until the tower icon appears. This could take up to two minutes. The button is on the lower-right side of the watch. If it doesn't work, rotate the watch 90 degrees and try again. If in Colorado, where the mountains cause interference, go to a window facing Fort Collins.
2. Select the proper time zone by pressing the "Mode" (lower left) button until "ZO" appears. Press and hold the "Adjust" (center right) button until the time zone digits flash. Press the "Split/Reset" (lower right) button until the correct time zone appears.
3. Adjust the daily savings feature while in the time zone mode. Press the "Mode" button when in the time zone mode in order to select the DST feature. Then press the "Split/Reset" (lower right) button to turn DST on or off.
4. Press the "Adjust" (center right) button when you are done setting the time zone and DST.
5. Set the date by pressing the "Mode" (lower left) button to get to the date mode. Hold the "Adjust" (center right) button until the date flashes. Press the "Start/Stop" (upper right) button and the "Split/Reset" (lower right) button to adjust the date. Press the "Adjust" (center right) button when you are done. Note that to increment the year, you need to pass from December to January.
