Run Properly To Lose Fat

Running helps you lose fat.

All cardiovascular exercise, including running, burns calories, but you can burn more fat in less time by running in intervals. Interval training, which is sprinting as fast as you can in short bursts, boosts your metabolism and burns more fat for a full day after your workout. All running burns fat, but interval running burns more fat than other forms of running.

Instructions

1. Jog at a light pace for two to five minutes. This is to warm up your system and get your blood moving.

2. Run as fast as you possibly can for 30 seconds to two minutes.

3. Slow down to a light jog for twice the length of your work interval. If you ran as fast as you could for a minute, slow down for 2 minutes; if you ran as fast as you could for 30 seconds, slow down for a minute.

4. Sprint at your maximum speed again. The key, according to Christian Finn of Stephen Holt Fitness, is to reach 95 percent of your maximum heart rate, which is your age subtracted from 120.

5. Slow back down to a light jog for a minute.

6. Repeat this process until you've performed six intervals.

7. Add one interval every time you are able, until you are performing 15 30-second intervals per workout. By performing your exercise in short intense bursts, you are speeding up your metabolism and encouraging your body to burn more fat even when you are at rest. According to a study by the University of Alabama, people who interval train experience higher calorie loss for up to 24 hours after their training session. This makes running in intervals more efficient for fat loss than running at low speeds for longer distances.
