Make The Degree Symbol In Windows

Enter the degree symbol in a document.


There are several ways to insert a degree symbol in Microsoft Office documents for Windows. Whichever method you end up using ultimately depends on whether you like to use the keyboard or mouse more. However, any of the ways to insert a degree symbol are pretty basic.


Instructions


Using the Symbol Command


1. This works for Excel, FrontPage, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, Word or Visio. First, find the "Insert" menu and click "Symbol."


2. This will open a "Symbol" dialogue box. In that box, select the "Symbols" tab.


3. Find the degree symbol and double-click it. The degree symbol will automatically be placed in the document.


Using the Character Map Tool


4. This works for Excel, FrontPage, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, Word or Visio.


5. First, click "Start," then "Programs," then "Accessories," then "System Tools," then "Character Map."


6. This will open the "Character Map" dialogue box. Find the degree symbol in the box.


7. Click the degree symbol. Click "Select," then "Copy."


8. Make sure the symbol you have selected in the "Character Map" box is in the same font you will be using in your document.


9. Return to the document and click "Paste."


Using the Character Code


10. This works in Excel, FrontPage, InfoPath, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, Word or Visio.


11. The character code for the degree symbol is ALT + 0176.


12. To insert a degree symbol, you can hold down the "ALT" key while typing the numbers 0176 on the numeric keypad.


13. The symbol should insert itself into the document.
