Remove A Governor From Golf Carts

The governor is a small electronic device that sits on the engine of your golf cart. You may not even know it’s there unless you’re looking for it or if you read the manual that came with your golf cart. The purpose of this device is to control the speed of the cart and to keep it below a specific speed limit. By removing this you can reach faster speeds and have a little more fun. Before you get your golf cart moving faster you first need to remove the governor.

Instructions

1. Look behind the seat of your golf cart for a small plastic plate held in place by two screws. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws.

2. Take off the plastic plate and place it in a convenient location. You’ll need to put this plate back on after removing the governor so make sure you remember where you put it.

3. Check the inside of the golf cart to find the governor. This little device is shaped like a T and has a middle part that is thicker or wider and moves back and forth. At the same time, look for a bolt that cuts through the governor, attaching it to the engine.

4. Remove the bolt holding the governor in place. Once you do this, the governor should fall off the engine though you’ll still see some cables connected. Use a pair of wire cutters to cut them off and place electricians tape over the ends.

5. Place the plastic plate back in position and screw it closed with your screwdriver. Your golf cart should now be working without the governor holding back your speed.
