Set Up A Website For A Kid With Cancer

CaringBridge connects loved ones during serious health events.

Creating a CaringBridge Website (see Resources section) for a kid with cancer is a great way to keep family and friends updated on health status changes in a personal, private manner. When families update their website, loved ones are able to log on to read the latest news on surgeries, treatments or even view photos. This eliminates multiple calls to the patient's room and nurse's station for status updates, which creates less stress for families by not having to re-tell the patient's condition to each person. In addition, patients benefit by receiving messages of love and support via the website.

Instructions

1. Go to the CaringBridge.org website. Click the button "Create a Website."

2. Select the "Start Now" button. Fill in each segment of the "About me" section. Check the square box to acknowledge that you have reviewed and agree to the CaringBridge terms of use. Click the "Save and Continue" button.

3. Fill in the child's information in the "About Your Loved One" section. Include his health condition and the name and location of the treatment facility.

4. Write down your personalized web address. Your first and last name will automatically default as your web address. You may choose a different name if you desire. Select the "Save and Continue" button.

5. Select a style for your website by choosing from the newest or the most popular website styles. You may change your style frequently if you like. Save your style selection and continue to the next page.

6. Choose your privacy settings. Select "Low" if you will not require your visitors to log in to access your Website. Select "Medium" for additional security settings requiring a CaringBridge log-in for access. For the most secure privacy, select "High," which requires your approval for access to view your Website. Select the "Activate This Website" button.
