Prevent Chafing From Men'S Workout Shorts

Proper fitting workout shorts make all the difference for preventing chafing.


Chafing is an uncomfortable, sometimes painful, skin irritation caused by moisture and friction. Severe or continuous chafing leads to open wounds. While chafing commonly occurs to people who are overweight, it also occurs frequently in sports, such as running. Chafing can have an impact on an active person's ability to perform to his potential. Preventative measures are important to take to avoid chafing in men's workout shorts.


Instructions


1. Start with a shower.


Shower or bathe before working out. If you have any salt crystals on your skin from a previous sweat, they will increase the chance of chafing. Showering will help you start with a clean skin surface.


2. Apply talcum powder to areas that commonly chafe, such as the inner thighs. Use a liberal amount of powder to keep skin dry.


3. Stay hydrated when training or active.


Drink lots of water, starting before your workout and continuing throughout. The average person should consume eight to 12 8-ounce glasses of water per day, and someone training should drink between 12 8-ounce glasses and 1 gallon of water per day. Adequate amounts of water help you perspire freely, preventing the formation of salt crystals on your skin.


4. Wear bike shorts, rather than loose-fitting shorts. Snug-fitting clothing is less likely to cause chafing than loose-fitting clothing.


5. Rub a skin lubricant onto the inner thighs right before the activity or event. A skin lubricant, such as petroleum jelly, udder cream or commercial sport skin lubricants, helps skin glide without rubbing or creating friction.
