Program Genie Garage Door Opener Remotes

Programming your Genie opener remotes depends upon the type of program system.

Programming Genie garage door remotes will depend upon the model and age of your garage door opener. Most newer models use a smart button to program the remotes. Older garage door openers have a line of white switches that must match. Look at the back of your garage door opener head to see which type of programming system your opener uses. Purchase remotes from home improvement centers or garage door dealers. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Programming With Dip Switches

1. Place a stepladder under the Genie garage door opener power head and locate the dip switches on the back of the power head. Nine switches in a row are set to different settings. Write the setting of each dip switch on a piece of paper.

2. Remove the battery cover from the remote control. Some remotes have a door on the back that you can slide off with your thumb. Other remotes require you take the back of the remote completely off. Insert a dime in the small slot at the bottom of the remote and twist the dime to pop the back off the remote.

3. Locate the line of dip switches directly above the battery. Set each dip switch to the setting on the back of the power head, using a small flathead screwdriver. Use what you wrote on the paper as your reference.

4. Push the remote control button and your opener should operate. If it does not, one or more of the dip switches on the remote is not set correctly. Remember, each individual switch must match its counterpart on the power head. Replace the battery cover or back panel of the remote after you successfully set the dip switches.

Using The Learn Button

5. Place the stepladder under the opener power head and push the learn button with your fingertip. The LED light below the learn button will illuminate.

6. Press the push button on the remote control and hold the button down until the light blinks on and off.

7. Release the push button and then press the push button again to operate the garage door opener.
