Promote A Dirt Race Car Track

Promote a Dirt Race Car Track

Dirt track racing is racing in its purest form. The drivers and crew members race for the love of the sport instead of the money and TV exposure. If you attend a dirt track race, you'll be experiencing an event like none other. The roar of the engines and the dirt flying into the stands will keep you on the edge of your seat. Promoting a dirt race track can be a challenge for owners who are trying to attract new fans. Successful promoters not only promote their track, but the drivers who compete on a weekly basis. Attracting new fans can be difficult if they have never seen the sport.

1. Develop a marketing strategy for your targeted audience. The people who attend dirt track racing on a regular basis are outdoors and hands-on type of people. Hang signs in places like auto parts stores, local restaurants and taverns. If you decide to advertise on TV or radio, make sure to negotiate the best time possible, during specific shows. For TV, the best types of shows to advertise on would be fishing or hunting programs or, of course, other races; people who watch figure skating generally don't watch dirt track racing. Make sure to include your regular drivers in these ads, because a lot of fans come to watch certain drivers.

2. Invite local media to the racing events. Having media coverage will help generate exposure. People will become intrigued with the sport if they see highlights on TV or read race recaps in the paper or online. Most media outlets would love to cover something new and fresh. Media outlets would probably cover more than just the actual race, telling stories about the individual racers, and those stories will also inspire people to attend.

3. Create promotions that give the fans an incentive to come to the track other than just for the racing. Have a T-shirt giveaway night where a certain number of fans receive a shirt featuring a driver or the track itself. A popular promotion is a "pack the house night" where all tickets are priced very cheaply. This allows fans to spend more money on concessions. Another popular promotion is a fireworks show. There are obviously laws that prevent fireworks shows in certain towns or counties, but if you can get it approved, most fans would enjoy staying after the races to watch fireworks.

4. Give the fans a chance to be a part of the event by having a certain fan every night sing the national anthem or allow one to wave the green flag for feature events. Other popular fan involvement projects could be raffling of rides in the pace car or push trucks. Involving fans makes them feel like they're a part of the show and not just spectators.

5. Create a website. This allows fans to get information about the track when at home. You can post results, photos, give updates on track conditions if inclement whether is in the forecast and so much more.
