Run A Fundraiser

Hold a casino night for a successful fundraiser.

Running a successful fundraiser takes a lot of work and, if done poorly, can even lose the organization money. This real risk means that the organization needs to spread the word about the event far in advance and guarantee guests. The organization can also choose to take a loss on the fundraiser in order to spread awareness so people will donate in the future. While some will attend the fundraiser because they are interested in the cause, others might just think the event sounds fun. Keep this in mind and cater to both types of people. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Advertise your event on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. Send emails out to members of your organization and to other similar organizations. Put up flyers in local coffee shops, places of worship and on college campuses. The more people coming to the event, the more awareness is raised---and, potentially, the more money donated. Find people sympathetic to your cause and ask volunteers to tell their friends about the event.

2. Order good food. People generally come to events if food is available. If they know they'll be able to eat a delicious meal, they will be more likely to show up. Try to cater to all different tastes. While some may enjoy deep-fried foods, other will want fresh fruits and vegetables. People expecting a great meal that end up being hungry will not be happy.

3. Explain the cause during the event. Even if the event is something like a casino night or a concert that is not related to your cause, tell everyone why they are there. Schedule the explanation midway through the event so you know almost everyone has arrived and people have not yet started leaving. Show pictures of the work your organization has done and plans to do in the future. Make an appeal to those at the fundraiser to consider donating to help the cause. Literature about the organization and donate should be given to each person who comes to the fundraiser. The organization can also sell t-shirts or other goods.

4. Schedule special speakers to help make a financial appeal. These speakers can be long-time volunteers or people directly affected by your organization's efforts. Bringing the cause to a personal level will help to connect potential donors with the issues being brought up. The speakers should talk about their experiences and detail why your organization can continue to help the community.

5. Offer prizes to people who come to the fundraiser. People like winning prizes. Solicit gifts from local businesses and hold a door raffle at the end of the night. You can also sell raffle tickets and give half of the earnings from the raffle to one winner. The prospect of winning a prize will make people spend more money.
