Select The Correct Sunglass Lens Color For Fishing

A few pairs of quality sunglasses are an essential part of any serious angler's fishing equipment. Sunglasses serve two purposes: They protect your eyes from natural and man-made perils, and they permit you to see through the surface glare and into the water you are fishing. While it is important to have comfortable sunglasses, the biggest decision you will make regarding your sunglasses will likely be what kind of lenses you will choose. Most anglers will find they need at least two pair of sunglasses to handle all of their fishing needs.

Instructions

1. Plan on purchasing one pair of lighter sunglasses for overcast days and one pair of darker sunglasses for bright sunny days. The lighter sunglasses will maximize your ability to see clearly into the water, and the darker sunglasses will provide more eye protection while still allowing you to see into the water.

2. Consider purchasing copper lenses if you frequently fish around vegetation. Copper lenses help you spot fish near vegetation by providing a strong color contrast against green backgrounds.

3. Choose a brown or gray lens that will provide eye protection without altering the colors you view through the lens, if you do not want any unnatural color contrast.

4. Consider choosing amber lenses if you fish during cloudy or overcast conditions or if you fish waters that are generally shaded by overhanging trees or foliage. Amber lenses improve visibility in low-light conditions, but they provide less eye protection in sunny conditions.

5. Pick a green-mirror brown lens if you generally fish in bright and sunny conditions. This particular lens is a constant-density brown lens with a mirrored green exterior surface. The mirrored lenses reflects sunlight while the brown coloration provides additional eye protection. The brown and green colors also permit an angler to see contrasting colors clearly while still providing significant eye protection.
