Military cadence is a call and response song. Cadence serves the purpose of keeping everyone on the same pace while running or marching. It's a count with words that helps regulate breathing. The songs require a caller that leads the group and set the pace. The cadence brings the group together, keeps motivation and lifts the morale.
Instructions
1. Position yourself in the front of the group. This position shows leadership to the group and represents you are the caller.
2. Begin stepping on the left foot and call out left. Step on the right foot and call out right. The group repeats the chant and steps on the left foot then the right. All chants begin on the left foot regardless if you are the caller or part of the group.
3. Set the pace of the group based on the speed of the chant you are calling. Call out left, right quickly and it indicates a faster pace. For a slower pace, use left right on left in a marching tempo.
4. Continue calling out the left, right chant. The duration of the chant depends on the activity the group is doing. Chants vary with words based on the experience of the caller.
