Pick A Yoga Retreat

Yoga retreats have become a popular and alternative vacation option. Typically, guests purchase an all-inclusive package that caters to the practice of yoga and overall wellness. Retreats vary according to price, accommodations, setting, yoga practice and activities. All retreats, however, feature the importance of a relaxed and rejuvenating vacation. Having so many options can be overwhelming. When deciding on a retreat, set a goal---whether it is to further the practice of yoga, explore a foreign country or have the opportunity to try new activities like horseback riding.

Instructions

Choosing a Compatible Yoga Retreat

1. Decide on the type of retreat that will meet your needs. Serious yoga enthusiasts may want to stay at a retreat where furthering the practice of yoga is the sole purpose of the vacation. These retreats plan the daily itineraries around practicing yoga a few times a day. Other retreats feature yoga as the central activity but make free time available for guests to explore other activities.

2. Choose your accommodations. These can vary greatly from basic dorms with shared bathrooms to luxurious bungalows that resemble a five-star resort.

3. Pick a location. Similar to any other vacation, location is vital. Fortunately, yoga retreats are available worldwide from upstate New York to Switzerland to Bali. Location is a matter of preference whether it is an inclination toward the beach, the forest or the desert.

4. Find the preferred technique. There is a wide variety of yoga styles from strengthening Ashtanga to the flowing Vinyasa. It is important to know which style of yoga the retreat practices. Many retreats offer a blended version of yoga styles to cater to a wider clientele.

5. Consider other activities. Some retreats are flexible about the way guests spend their free time. Others offer suggested tours or planned tours like hiking, biking, shopping or spa treatments. Some retreats offer activities related to health and wellness like meditation, qigong and acupuncture.

6. Figure out the budget. The budget will greatly depend on the type of retreat, length of stay, location and the included amenities. Many retreats in Central America and South East Asia offer more for the money; however, flights can be expensive. Take into consideration not only the package rate but also extra fees such as transportation and off-site activities.
