Run Without Losing Your Breath

Breathe through your mouth while running to get more oxygen into your body.

Proper breathing during exercise prevents dizziness, improves your endurance and even increases fat burning. Yet many people don't know the proper way to breathe or even the correct techniques to utilize during a workout. If you lose your breath easily and feel discouraged while running you may give up. With the right methods, however, you can learn to run like a pro.

Instructions

1. Alternate between running and walking. Run for one minute, then walk for one minute. Do this for the first 10 minutes of your run. Then run for two minutes at a time and walk for one minute. Build up your stamina so that you are running more and walking less.

2. Slow down if you loose your breath. Start your run at a slow pace. Gradually build up to a faster pace as you get used to the run.

3. Run with a relaxed posture. Do not tense up. Tight muscles can affect your breathing and cause shortness of breath.

4. Place your hands on your stomach. Feel whether your stomach is moving up and down when you breathe. Breathing from your belly helps you bring in more oxygen and get rid of more carbon dioxide.

5. Change your breathing pattern. Inhale for three steps and exhale for two steps. Concentrate on this breathing technique as you run until it becomes a habit. Your heart rate will slow down and you will be able to get more oxygen into your body.
