Terry cloth bibs are absorbent, durable and can easily be washed.
As soon as babies begin to eat solid food, parents race to purchase baby bibs. Bibs protect children's clothing by keeping the food off the clothes and on the bib. But parents do not have to purchase expensive baby bibs, they can make their own. Bibs are inexpensive and easy to make. Because bibs can be personalized by choosing specific fabric, homemade bibs also make easy and personal baby gifts.
Instructions
1. Open an Internet browser. Enter "Baby Bib Pattern" in the search box at the top right side of the page. Select "Make a Baby Bib" and print the baby bib pattern on a computer printer. The pattern will print easily on 8.5 by 11inch paper.
2. Choose fabric that is personal to the baby or family for the perfect shower gift.
Choose two pieces of fabric for the baby bib. One piece of fabric should be something that is absorbent such as terry cloth. The second piece of fabric needs to be less thick than the terry cloth such as cotton. Select bright colors or fabric that has teddy bears, flowers, animals or other baby-related items.
3. Cut a large section of each fabric. The fabric should be about twice the size of the bib pattern. Lay both pieces on a flat surface, side by side.
4. Trim around the edges of the pattern, removing all excess paper. Pin the pattern to the fabric using sewing pins once finished.
5. Cut the fabric, using the pattern as a guide. Follow the edge of the pattern closely. Repeat the process with the second piece of fabric, so that there are two equal pieces.
6. Lay the terry cloth piece on a flat surface. Place the second piece of fabric on top of the terry cloth with the decorative fabric face down. Pin the two pieces together by placing pins about 1/4 inch from the edge.
7. Sew the edges together by using a sewing machine. Leave a small space at the bottom. Turn the bib inside out, and sew the opening shut using a needle and thread. Sew a metal snap or a small piece of Velcro on each neck strap to secure the bib.
